International Marconi day takes place on April 22nd this year. On this celebratory day, radio fans use High Frequency radio to make direct point-to-point contact between stations, relying on exactly the same technology Guglielmo Marconi developed and utilised in 1895, as the father of modern wireless radio communications . Today the Internet is the medium of choice for worldwide communications – but the idea of Marconi Day is to keep the spirit of his invention alive.
Bellway’s Marconi Evolution is a unique development of modern apartments and houses in the centre of Chelmsford, on the iconic Marconi works, the first wireless factory in the world and headquarters to one of the founding fathers of radio, Guglielmo Marconi. This site is being sympathetically redeveloped and includes landscaped public spaces, cycleways and gardens for the enjoyment of all residents.
Gemma Bannister, Divisional Sales Manager at Bellway Homes Essex, comments: “Regenerating this site has been extremely fulfilling and it’s great that there is still a special day which celebrates a product and a man who was so visionary and ahead of his time. Our development will always have a special place in history and Bellway is proud of its part in transforming the area in such a positive way. These brand new homes have proven very popular with local buyers, looking for a slice of city-centre living, with great travel connections and fantastic amenities on the doorstep. ”
Marconi is a great location for commuters and an excellent choice for those who prefer two wheels to four. Safe cycle routes go right through the heart of Marconi Evolution and connect the site quickly to the heart of Chelmsford, and secure cycle storage racks are available with plenty of space to lock up your bicycle overnight. A trip from Marconi Evolution into Chelmsford High Street or station should take just a few minutes. There could be good news for cyclists ahead too, as a recent study, written by tax barrister Jolyon Maugham QC suggested that people could receive £250 a year in tax breaks if they cycle to work.
Gemma Bannister continues: “As with all busy towns the traffic in Chelmsford peaks and troughs. Marconi Evolution is so close to the centre of Chelmsford that at rush hour it is likely to be quicker to walk or cycle than it is to drive. Essex is awash with wonderful cycling, close to us we have lovely cycle routes over the National Trust Danbury Common and you can travel along the River Can in Chelmsford to Chelmer & Blackwater Canal. We are keen to promote cycling as a way to be cost-effective, eco-friendly and a great way to keep fit.”
Pietro House has two bedroom apartments for sale, boasting a high-quality specification with stylish open-plan spaces. The modern kitchens have soft-close units, as well as a selection of integrated appliances, including an electric oven, fridge freezer and washer dryer. The master bedroom benefits from a fitted wardrobe and an en suite with shower enclosure, while bedroom two is served by the family bathroom. The homes at Marconi Evolution are available with Help to Buy which has been successfully used by 30 per cent of buyers in the UK between April 2013 and April 2016 alone.
Chelmsford is well-known in the region for the quality of its fabulous shopping. High Chelmer and Meadows shopping centres are just a 12 minute walk from the development. Between them, the centres are home to a mass of stores, both high-street names and independent boutiques, as well as a variety of cafés, food takeaways and restaurants.
For the occasions when pedal power wont suffice, Marconi Evolution is a short walk from Chelmsford train station with journey times into London of 35 minutes and up to six services an hour. Just one stop on from Chelmsford is Shenfield, which will boast Crossrail connections from 2018. Southend and Stansted Airports are approximately half an hour away by car for international travel.
