INVESTING

For house hunters looking for an alternative location to the capital to invest in, a tour of Storey Homes latest development De Montfort Place, in Bedford, is worth investigating. According to recent figures by the Office for National Statistics homes in the commuter belt town are increasing at a rate of 16 per cent a year. So, investing now for the future at the former university site is the perfect option, especially for those who want to move away from London.

De Montfort Place comprises 152 contemporary homes ranging from one bedroom apartments to five bedroom houses, designed to appeal to first time buyers, downsizers and families alike. Building work began six months ago, at the Warwick Avenue site, and a selection of 30 homes are now available to purchase at an early stage of construction.

Potential purchasers are invited to register for two Wellies on Weekends on Saturday 4th March for apartments, and Saturday 18th March to view houses, which offers buyers the chance to walk the site and get a feel for the development.

Katy Jordan, Managing Director of Storey Homes comments: “Plans for this site have been in the offing for several years so it is exciting to now see the building work come along and see such a growing interest in the development. During the first release of homes here, property was snapped up so it is exciting to be able to offer more homes to buyers off-plan.

“The wellie tour will allow buyers, who may be inexperienced in buying off-plan, to visualise the layouts and get a better idea of the space on offer. It is definitely worth seeing what space you can get for your money here, especially as property prices are on the rise.”

Sixteen homes have already been sold, with an additional 25 affordable homes being offered by housing provider, Cross Keys Homes. Five houses and 25 apartments are included for sale in the current phase, with Help to Buy available on selected plots.

The regeneration of the site will provide much needed housing for Bedford that was recently voted by online estate agents eMoov, the third hottest property market in the UK, such is the demand from house hunters, who are searching outside the capital for homes of better value.
The development is located in tranquil, tree-lined streets with a landscaped communal garden.  All apartments benefit from a high specification, open plan kitchen diners, separate utility cupboards and allocated parking.  A typical two-bedroom apartment in Harborough House includes a large open plan sitting area with bay windows, kitchen, an en suite to the master bedroom and a family bathroom.

While the outstanding four and five bedroom homes are great for families, offering plenty of space inside and out, with parking spaces for two cars outside.

The sought-after town of Bedford offers an extensive range of retail and leisure facilities including three speciality markets. It is renowned as having one of the finest riverside settings too, where residents will be able to enjoy panoramic views of the River Great Ouse or picnic in one of the many parks and green spaces.

De Montfort also has excellent access to transport links to London, with the M1 just a few miles from home, and with Bedford train station only 11 minutes’ walk away. The train services run regularly into London St Pancras offering direct connections with a journey time of only 50 minutes. Further transport offered nearby is Luton Airport that is accessible via the M1 and A421 and is only 40 minutes’ drive by car.
