Second steppers snap up houses in revamped Camberwell
Published On :
For many homeowners, the thought of moving up the property ladder can feel out of reach, with almost a quarter finding it harder than buyer their first home, according to research by Lloyds Bank[i]. At Bellway Homes’ Elmington Green development in Camberwell properties are proving attractive and within reach of second steppers, offering a cheaper alternative to nearby areas such as Clapham.
Camberwell is an area in the midst of a modern regeneration, noted for its artistic and cultural credentials, whilst its Zone 2 location keeps residents well connected to central London and everything the capital has to offer.
The development offers a selection of one and two-bedroom apartments but it is Bellway’s three and four bedroom houses that are the most popular among 30-somethings wanted to upgrade to a new home.
Emma Denton, Sales Director at Bellway Homes, comments: “Many of our buyers at Elmington Green are in their 30s, from the local area and are buying their second property, proving we are bucking the trend when it comes to the second stepper challenges reported.
“We would encourage potential purchasers to visit this development soon and see all that Elmington Green has to offer.”
A typical three-bedroom mid-terrace home at Elmington Green is spread across three floors and offers a roof-top terrace, open-plan living spaces, and three double bedrooms. The open plan living and dining area includes French doors that open up out onto the turfed garden, the kitchens come complete with modern integrated appliances and a cloakroom completes the ground floor. The first floor includes a family bathroom and two double bedrooms, while the second floor features the master bedroom, with the luxury of a stylish en suite and fitted wardrobe, and access to the generous outdoor terrace.
Camberwell is home to a vibrant artistic movement, with Camberwell College of Arts, the South London Gallery, the Camberwell Arts Festival and several artists’ studios at the vanguard. The area also offers a selection of leisure opportunities, with a range of bars, restaurants, cafés and shops near Camberwell Green. Burgess Park is also less than a mile from Elmington Green, with a host of facilities including play areas, gardens, cycle tracks, a fishing lake, running trails, tennis courts and sports pitches, and is a venue for local events such as the Camberwell Fair.
Ideal for commuters, Denmark Hill is the nearest railway station, with regular services offering a journey time into London Victoria of nine minutes, Clapham Junction in 14 minutes, London St Pancras in 20 minutes and Shoreditch in 24 minutes. Residents can also benefit from regular bus services operating locally and across London, and the closest tube stop is Oval, on the Northern Line.
Prices at Elmington Green start from £699,995 for a three-bedroom house and £794,995 for a four-bedroom house.
